Dr. Jun Fan
Dr. Jun Fan is a professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, CityU. Dr. Fan received her bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University, Beijing, Master’s
degree from McMaster University, Canada((Prof. Nikolas Provatas Group)), and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Aerospace
Engineering from Princeton University, USA. She worked under Prof. Mikko Haataja for her Ph.D.
thesis and focused on the structure and dynamics of cell membranes. Afterwards,
she moved to the
University of Chicago, USA for as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Greg Voth’s group. She explored the structure, function
and mechanical properties of protein complexes, using molecular dynamics simulations and coarse-
grained approaches. Her research results have turned into more than 170 (Aug. 2025) peer-reviewed
papers in prestigious journals including Nature Energy, Nature Sustain, Nature Plants, PNAS, Science Advances,
Nature Communications, Physical Review Letters, etc. Her H-index is 53 with the total citation more than 10,000 (Aug. 2025)
She is thus recognized as a Top 2% Most Cited Scientists (2024). She received CityU Outstanding CENG Teaching Award (2023),
Tianhe Excellent Application Award from National Guangdong Supercomputing Center (2019) and CityU Outstanding Supervisor Award (2018).
